Seven games today, one a deciding Game 3 (Clemson-Texas) and the other six featuring teams trying to close out two-game sweeps and advance to the Women's College World Series. Below are my summaries and comments on the ongoing games...
Liberty-Oregon GAME 2 (Oregon leading one game to none)
No drama here -- Ducks take it 13-1 to advance to WCWS...
Alabama-Oklahoma GAME 2 (Oklahoma leading one game to none)
Just underway... Sooners scoreless in T1, Crimson Tide batting in B1... OU gets a T2 run via small ball (walk, walk, single)... B2, double and walk give Bama two runners with one out... K for second out... Full count on next batter... Swing and miss to end Bama threat... T3, Sooners' Gabbie Garcia with line shot into the right-field bleachers for two-run homer and 3-0 lead... Now 9-0 Oklahoma, still T3... 13-2 is your final, as the Sooners head to another WCWS...
Georgia-Florida GAME 2 (Florida leading one game to none)
Unseeded Georgia gets solo homers in first and second innings, makes them hold up in 2-1 victory vs. No. 3-seeded Florida to even series at a game apiece...
Mississippi-Arkansas GAME 2 (Ole Miss leading one game to none)
Hogs tie series 1-1 with 4-0 victory...
Clemson-Texas (GAME 3; tied at a game apiece)
Texas wins 6-5 to advance. Clemson got a two-run homer T7, but fell one run short...
Nebraska-Tennessee GAME 2 (NU leading one game to none)
Vols (visitors) lead 3-2, as Cornhuskers come to bat B5... 3-2 is the final, setting up a winner-take-all game tomorrow. This game featured a "Golden Pitch," which I've discussed in the past. It is a pitch on which either team can win the game. With Nebraska batting in the bottom of the seventh with two out and runners on second and third, Vols could win the game with an out and Huskers could win the game (and series) with a hit to drive in both runners. Tennessee got the out (video)...
UCLA-South Carolina GAME 2 (SC leading one game to none)
Gamecocks (visitors) lead 3-0 as Bruins bat B5... One-out solo shot by Sofia Mujica gets Bruins on the board (3-1 SC)... Heading to the bottom of the seventh, UCLA needing at least three runs to keep its season alive... Bruins not going quietly. One-out triple to the wall by Kaitlyn Terry drives in one, cutting UCLA deficit to 4-2... K for second out... Savannah Pola with sharp line single to center, making it 4-3... Jordan Woolery at the plate... SC pitching change... Oh my! Woolery homers to left, giving UCLA a 5-4 win! Here's the video. See you tomorrow for Game 3...
