2025 Super-Regionals Day 2

All eight series have games today. The two winners from last night, Texas Tech (over Florida State) and Clemson (over Texas) will try to earn slots in the Women's College World Series. Below are my summaries and comments on the ongoing games...

Liberty-Oregon GAME 1

The Flames, who conquered national No. 1-seeded Texas A&M last week in the regionals, and No. 16-seeded Ducks (home team) are underway... Oregon wins 3-2 in eight innings, as line single drives in runner from third (video)...

Alabama-Oklahoma GAME 1

In this all-SEC matchup, the No. 2-seeded Sooners (home team) lead the No. 15-seeded Crimson Tide 2-0... OU with a leadoff double B5... Two-out single makes it 3-0 Sooners... No further scoring, as OU takes the series opener...

Georgia-Florida GAME 1

In the early game, No. 3-seeded Florida defeated unseeded Georgia 6-1 in this all-SEC contest...

Mississippi-Arkansas GAME 1

The unseeded Rebels (visitors) lead No. 4-seed Arkansas 9-5 in another matchup of SEC rivals, as the Razorbacks bat B5... 9-7 Ole Miss is your final...

Texas Tech-Florida State (GAME 2; TTU leading one game to none)

The No. 12-seeded Red Raiders will be going to the program's first-ever WCWS behind the arm of NiJaree Canady and some less-than-stellar FSU fielding. Today's final was 2-1, with both of Tech's runs being unearned. The No. 5 Seminoles threatened in the top of the fifth on a one-out double, but didn't score... FSU again threatened in T7, leading off with a walk and a double, but got only one run...

Clemson-Texas (GAME 2; Clemson leading one game to none)

Longhorns off to a 2-0 lead T2 on a two-run shot by Leighann Goode (video)... After the Tigers' Maddie Moore hits a two-run homer to tie the game in B3, the Horns' Reese Atwood returns the favor with a solo shot to make it 3-2 Texas T4... After score is tied 5-5 after five innings, teams go scoreless in the sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth. Longhorns score two unearned runs in T10, then survive two-on, two-out situation in B10 to keep their season alive...

Nebraska-Tennessee GAME 1

The unseeded Huskers (visitors) and No. 7-seeded Volunteers are under way... Jordy Bahl, who likely will be Nebraska's starting pitcher, singled and stole second, then scored on a two-out single, 1-0 Huskers after half an inning... Bahl indeed in the circle for Nebraska... Vols tie it 1-1 on Sophia Nugent blast in B2 (video)... Two-out Tennessee double in B2, but deep fly-out ends threat... T3, with one out, Bahl walks and is doubled home by Samantha Bland on liner to right-center gap (video), 2-1 Huskers... Nothing further for Nebraska in T3... T4, Hannah Camenzind with leadoff homer to center to make it 3-1 Huskers... Nebraska seeking more with two outs, runners on first and second... Pop drops between SS and left-fielder, then throw home gets away, making it 5-1 Huskers... Pitching change... HBP, giving NU runners at the corners... Runner steals second on defensive indifference... Walk to load bases for Huskers... Pop to 2B-person ends threat... 5-2 Nebraska is your final...

UCLA-South Carolina GAME 1

No. 8-seeded South Carolina (home team) leads No. 9-seeded UCLA 5-2, but the Bruins have runners at the corners with two out T4... Ground-out ends UCLA threat... T5, Bruins threatening again with runners at first and second and none out... Nothing comes of it... 9-2 South Carolina is your final...

NiJaree Canady Transferring to -- of All Places -- Texas Tech

NiJaree Canady, whose sub-1.00 ERA helped lead Stanford to the Women's College World Series in both her years with the Cardinal, announced on July 24 that she is transferring to Texas Tech. I've lived in Lubbock for 27 years and can say that the town has been improving with a greater selection of restaurants and shops, and a new downtown performing arts center. Likewise, nice new facilities have been dotting the Texas Tech campus . Still, it seems unlikely that Canady would have become a Red Raider without the $1 million annual Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deal for her, made possible by the donation of a Texas Tech alumni couple. So stunning an event is this, even in the ever-changing world of collegiate athletics, that the New York Times  even ran a behind-the-scenes story on Canady's path to Texas Tech. I look forward to being in the stands to watch Canady pitch next spring, an opportunity I never expected to have.

Pitching Star NiJaree Canady Reportedly in the Transfer Portal

Stanford pitching ace NiJaree Canady has reportedly entered the transfer portal ( link ), having completed two seasons in the circle for the Cardinal. Stanford has made the WCWS in both of Canady's seasons on the team. Another school hit hard by the transfer portal is the University of Washington, with an exodus of eight Huskies . This list of the top ten players in the portal includes four from UW. Today is the final day of the 30-day window for players to enter the portal.

2024 WCWS -- Day 6

Oklahoma has kept its quest for a fourth straight WCWS title alive with a 6-5 eight-inning win over Florida to advance to the championship round. The Sooners will take on Texas in a two-out-of-three series beginning Wednesday night. Florida held a 5-2 lead after three innings and looked well on its way to beating OU for the second straight day, which would have eliminated the Sooners and taken the Gators to the final round. However, UF scored no further runs, whereas Oklahoma chipped away with two in the fourth, one in the sixth, and one in the eighth. The final run came via Jayda Coleman's opposite-field walk-off home run to lead off the bottom of the eighth.  Sooner starter Kelly Maxwell went the distance, allowing only four hits. Three of those hits were home runs within the first three innings; the only other Gator hit was an infield single in the top of the sixth. Maxwell also walked five and struck out eight. Florida starter Keagan Rothrock also went the distance, allowing 1...
